IMAGE LEFT  was taken through a 60 mm Coronade Solamax filter at about 0.8 Angstroms.
 

A prominence is clearly visible at this wave length.


IMAGE RIGHT  is of the same spot, but taken using a Baader Astro film and a 60 mm Tele Vue refractor. The spot or "hole" is in the granulation of the solar photosphere.  They are the centers of intense localized magnetic fields exiting or entering through the visible outer layer of the atmosphere exposing the cooler convective zone below.

Both images were taken with a Lumanera Skynx Super Web-Cam.
