22" Observatory Logs - Phil Mattingly
April 08, 2008:
Arrived with Tom at 1700 hours. Much of the tarmac snow is gone. We were
able to
park almost next to the observatory. What started
out in the valley was mostly clear sky, upon arriving,
much of the sky was intermittent clouds, with one
humongous black cloud covering about a third of our
overhead area. We kidded about there being a
possible snow fall this night. Nothing ventured, nothing
gained is our motto ... by1900 hours the sky was
black and pristine. Tom opened his observatory. Upon
arriving the temperature was 45 degrees, and 26
degrees when we left at 0130 Thursday morning.
Worked on the 8 inch camera alignment. Will
eventually need to modify the tangent assembly. Took a
number of SN2008AX images. Worked this night in the
control room which was snug and warm. Tom
closed up his observatory and joined me in the
control room for the night.
